LEGENDARY PINBALL DESIGNER NORM CLARK VISITS STERN
November 8, 2007 - Legendary Pinball Designer Norm Clark, now 86 years old, visited Stern Pinball today. Norm met with Gary Stern, Steve Ritchie, Dennis Nordman, Ray Tanzer, Lyman Sheats, and Joe Blackwell of Stern Pinball and saw how pinball machines are made today. They toured the factory floor, and then the engineering department. In engineering, Norm received a demonstration of Solid Works, the 3-D mechanical design program Stern employs to create their games. The tour was followed by lunch at Capri, a local Italian restaurant, where they traded pinball stories for the next couple of hours.
Gary Stern says, "I remember Norm along with Steve Kordek being our games designers at Williams when my father owned it. They were great. They were there when I worked summers during high school and when I was there full-time. Norm is one of the all-time great pinball designers."
Norm Clark designed 65 pinball machines. Norm worked at Williams from 1954 to 1975, and then at Bally as the head of their pinball department from 1975 to 1985. Some of his most famous games include Moulin Rouge, Blast off/Apollo, Spanish Eyes, Travel Time, Fantastic, OXO, StratoFlite, and many others.
